Community 101

We have received all of our applications from non-profit organizations, and are in the process of selecting how to distribute our grant money. Students are learning how difficult it is to decide who we should fund, and who we cannot. We would like to give everyone money, but our limited budget makes this impossible.

We are also in the process of selecting another community improvement project. We are doing some volunteer work with Headstart, and have plans for a community clean-up day sometime this spring. Time permitting, we would like to do one more community project, but we haven't decided what to do yet.

Student Leadership is Underway!

Student Leadership
Student leadership became a class on January 30th, and is off to a running start. Catching up on everything that's happening has been both crazy & fun. We've got the plan in hand now, and have a ton of fun activities and events coming up.

Basketball season is coming to an end, so next week is Spring Spirit Week! Pajama day on Monday! Check the halls for themes for the rest of the week, and come on out to support your Warriors Tuesday & Thursday!

We have a dance coming up on Friday February 10th from 7pm until 10pm. This casual event is open to high school and 8th grade students. Come on out and have fun as we celebrate stepping into spring!

Community 101 Funder Meeting

Weather permitting, Janessa from Community 101 will be visiting on Thursday, January 19th. She'll be bringing representatives from The Meyer Memorial Trust and the Roberts Motor Company Charitable Fund to meet with the class, and discuss how our Community 101 project is going.

I'm excited about the progress we've made! We have developed an excellent mission statement geared towards helping young people in our community live safe and happy lives. We're also learning empathy, and the power of working together to help others. We have met with several non-profit organizations, and we're just waiting for the applications to come in. I'm looking forward to the decision phase!

Community 101
Community 101 students have a lot of action coming up. Debra Jones from HALC will be here on the 5th, and Janessa from the Community 101 Foundation will be here with our sponsors on the 19th. We also have Rochelle coming from the Siletz Elders program in hopes of getting something set-up between these two groups.

Head Start volunteerism is going well, and will be starting up again on the 9th of January. We should be starting to receive applications soon, and I'm excited for the students to start the decision making process of grant giving.

YELP
Steve & Chris will be back January 11th, and we'll be getting into the nitty gritty of business planning as students create their business and/or community development projects. This is an exciting time as we look at ways we can make our community a better place.
